Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, January 21, 2026.

The Digital Citizenship project, promoted by Opciónate, continues to expand its reach in Gran Canaria and invites new educational centers to join during the 2025–2026 academic year.

The initiative seeks to strengthen students’ essential skills for navigating the digital environment safely, critically, and responsibly, integrating education in digital competence, emotional and social intelligence, well-being, and active participation in the construction of safer, more inclusive, and more conscious digital environments.

Following its implementation in previous years in various schools on the island, with funding from the Citizen Participation Unit of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the project now offers the possibility of incorporating new schools interested in working on digital literacy from an ethical, critical, caring, and gender-focused perspective, with both students and teachers.

The program is based on a fundamental premise: it is not enough to know how to use technology; it is necessary to understand it, question it, and use it to improve one’s own life and that of the community. From this perspective, Digital Citizenship addresses key issues for today’s children and adolescents, such as the safe and healthy use of devices and social networks, the prevention of digital risks—including cyberbullying, identity theft, overexposure, and misinformation—the development of critical thinking and information verification, emotional management linked to the digital environment, coexistence and respectful communication online, as well as active participation in the creation of responsible digital content.

To this end, the project combines training sessions, participatory activities, and practical materials adapted to each educational stage. Activities aimed at students include workshops such as My Digital Footprint, which focuses on online identity, privacy, and reputation; Detectives of Misinformation, which offers tools for identifying hoaxes, manipulation, and hate speech; Coexistence on the Internet, aimed at preventing and responding to cyberbullying, sexist cyberviolence, and other hate crimes; Digital Well-being, which promotes healthy habits and emotional self-care; and Responsible Influencers and Creators, which focuses on the production of digital content with an ethical, inclusive, and gender-sensitive approach.

Teachers also have a specific training space, which includes pedagogical strategies for integrating digital education into the classroom, resources to accompany students in the safe and critical use of technology, and tools to detect and address digital conflicts. Optionally, the project offers information sessions for families, with tips for accompanying children in the digital environment, practical recommendations for the home, and spaces for dialogue on the challenges and opportunities presented by technology.

In addition, the initiative provides schools with various materials and resources, such as teaching guides, infographics, practical worksheets, and activities ready to use in tutorials or school projects.

Schools interested in implementing the project during the 2025–2026 academic year can contact Opciónate for detailed information on how to participate, on the schedule and duration of activities, and how the project can be adapted to different educational levels.
