The Vice-Ministry for Equality and Diversity of the Government of the Canary Islands, within the framework of the Canarian Strategy for Equal Transition, has promoted the III Training Days for the International Human Rights Day in the Canary Islands: ‘Breaking down borders, adding Equality in sport’. Opciónate was in charge of the technical coordination of the event at the request of the Vice-Ministry.
The first conference, held on Friday 16 December, took place in the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and the second, on Saturday 17 December, was held in the Assembly Hall of the Claret School in Tamaraceite, home of the Gran Canaria Basketball Sports Club, in the morning.

The association launches a pioneering service to promote equality, digital ethics and safety in the age of artificial intelligence The launch coincides with 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and Technology Opciónate has collaborated with more than 80 organisations and networks in the Canary Islands, mainland Spain, Europe and Latin America

Opciónate presents ConectAIgualdad, a new social innovation service designed to advance equality, safety and digital ethics in a context marked by the rise of artificial intelligence and the increase in online gender‑based violence. The initiative aims to transform the challenges of the digital environment into opportunities for social change, combining creativity, technology, participation and equity.

ConectAIgualdad stands out from traditional services because it not only addresses immediate needs, but also tackles the structural causes that generate inequality, discrimination and violence in digital environments. From this perspective, Opciónate develops knowledge, tools and replicable models capable of inspiring fairer and more sustainable public policies and professional practices.

The launch of ConectAIgualdad coincides with 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and Technology, a key date to highlight the gender gap in technological fields and to advocate for the full participation of women and girls in shaping the digital future. ConectAIgualdad was created precisely to respond to this challenge: ensuring that technological transformation does not reproduce inequalities, but instead moves towards an ethical, safe and violence‑free digital ecosystem.

At a time when the Government of Spain is moving towards stricter regulation of artificial intelligence —including recognising deepfakes as crimes against honour and reinforcing consent requirements for the use of image and voice, especially for minors— ConectAIgualdad positions itself as an essential service to support institutions and citizens in this transition. The initiative not only anticipates the challenges that the new regulations aim to address, but also provides practical tools to prevent digital violence, debunk misleading chains such as the recently circulated message about supposed protection against Grok, and promote an ethical, safe and feminist use of technology.

An urgent challenge: AI bias and the rise of digital violence

The proliferation of online gender‑based violence, digital misogyny and hate crimes has intensified in recent years. Added to this are gender biases embedded in digital tools and AI systems, which reproduce inequalities and disproportionately affect women, girls and vulnerable groups.

ConectAIgualdad responds to this reality by promoting a critical, inclusive and transformative digital citizenship and “digital care”, capable of building an online environment free from violence, discrimination and bias. The initiative incorporates an intersectional feminist strategy focused on the leadership and active participation of women, young people and professionals in shaping an ethical and safe digital ecosystem.

Seven Ethical Digital Transformation Goals

ConectAIgualdad structures its work around seven strategic objectives: • Guarantee digital safety and equality as a fundamental right. • Prevent and respond to misogyny and digital gender‑based violence. • Strengthen feminist and intercultural leadership in digital and physical environments. • Mitigate gender bias in artificial intelligence and digital platforms. • Promote digital wellbeing and self‑care through emotional intelligence. • Reduce digital divides affecting women, girls and vulnerable groups. • Foster alliances and networking to promote cyber‑equality.

Three programmes to transform the digital environment

  1. Cyber Equality: Being, belonging and participating in the digital age Promotes an ethical, critical and inclusive digital culture based on responsible technology use and the reduction of gender bias in digital environments.
  2. Prevention and response to digital gender‑based violence Addresses online gender‑based violence through training, psychosocial support and feminist digital self‑defence strategies.
  3. LiderA+: Leadership of women and girls in digital and physical environments Strengthens the active participation of women and young people, integrating reflection on gender bias in AI, social media and other digital spaces, how these biases affect them, and how to respond to this misogynistic online reality.

Measurable impact: more than a decade of transformation

Opciónate works with professionals with over 25 years of experience in equality, digital citizenship and gender‑based violence prevention. Through its initiatives: • It has trained more than 8,000 people in equality and digital ethics. • It has supported more than 50 institutions in processes to institutionalise gender equality and prevent gender‑based violence, both online and offline. • It has collaborated with more than 80 organisations and networks in the Canary Islands, mainland Spain, Europe and Latin America. • It has developed pioneering services and protocols that set professional standards for promoting the rights of women and girls, preventing and addressing the violence they face, and strengthening feminist leadership.

An invitation to join ethical digital transformation

ConectAIgualdad responds to a global need: ensuring equity, safety and equal participation in the digital environment for all people, eliminating the sexist biases embedded in technology and artificial intelligence.

Opciónate invites institutions, organisations, public administrations and professionals to collaborate and support this initiative to advance towards a digital citizenship that is equal, safe and free from online gender‑based violence.
