Opciónate has launched the working phase with the educational centers participating in the Cuidadanía y ética digital (Digital Care and Ethics) project, funded by the Citizen Participation Unit of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.
Following the open call in January, we have begun meeting with teachers from four schools on the island to present our teaching guide, explain the content, and adapt the programme and training sessions to their specific needs.
The participating centers are: IES José Zerpa (Santa Lucía de Tirajana), CEIP Galicia (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), IES Santiago Santana Díaz (Arucas), and CFP Telde (Telde).
Between February and April, Opciónate will carry out three training sessions with teachers and/or students in the different schools, with the aim of bringing digital care and digital ethics into the classroom through our teaching guide, available for free download on our website. The contents include digital coexistence, digital violence, privacy, digital footprint, algorithms, influencers, and the power of the “like”, all approached from a perspective of care, socio-emotional learning, and gender equality.
Students will play a central role in this process, creating their own materials through reflection and critical thinking, and imagining more ethical, responsible, and equitable ways of inhabiting digital spaces.
At IES Santiago Santana Díaz, we have begun a dialogue with teachers to collectively think, discuss, and build ways to take care of ourselves in digital environments as well. In this case, the school has requested a different approach: training will focus primarily on teachers, providing them with tools to address the content with students, rather than offering direct sessions with the student body.
CEIP Galicia chose a model based on student training and a presentation for families. Two sessions will be held for each 6th-grade group, along with one session for teachers on how to integrate the content into different subjects.
Throughout February, we will meet with the other two participating educational centers.
The project will conclude with an evaluation of the results together with the teaching staff, listening to their feedback and adapting the proposal to the reality of each educational context.
At Opciónate, we continue to champion education as a tool for cyber-equality and the prevention of digital violence, building safer and more responsible digital environments for the entire educational community.
