Building safer digital environments: Opciónate wraps up its series on trainings in Gran Canaria

8 de June de 2026 | Social Projects

On April 28 and 29, Opciónate завершed its training cycle on digital participation, cyber equality, and violence prevention, developed in collaboration with the Fundación Universitaria de Las Palmas (FULP) and Participa Gran Canaria.

Following an initial postponement due to adverse weather conditions, these sessions allowed the completion of a collective learning space aimed at reflecting on our lives in digital environments, the challenges they present, and the tools needed to promote more conscious, critical, and safe online participation.

The training programme, held at El Soco (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), was designed as a coherent learning process, addressing different dimensions of digital citizenship through practical and participatory methodologies.

Within this framework, Workshop 1: “Digital Citizenship and Digital Ethics” focused on fostering critical and responsible citizenship, analysing the impact of algorithms and artificial intelligence on our daily lives, while promoting respectful online behaviour and the prevention of digital violence.

Workshop 2: “Identity and Self-Esteem in the Age of the Like” explored the culture of external validation on social media, the influence of digital environments on identity and body image, and strategies to strengthen digital self-care and personal leadership.

Finally, Workshop 3: “Cyber Equality, Digital Citizenship, and Online Coexistence” addressed the prevention of cyberbullying and gender-based digital violence, providing tools to identify early warning signs and practical guidelines for families and professionals on how to respond.

Promoting participation and empowerment through equality

The sessions were developed through theoretical-practical and experiential methodologies, encouraging reflection, exchange of experiences, and collective empowerment from a gender equality perspective.

At Opciónate, we continue to promote training processes that foster critical, responsible, and engaged digital citizenship, capable of building safer, more inclusive, and respectful online environments.

Collaboration for more active digital citizenship

This training initiative is part of the Citizen Participation Promotion Programme, led by FULP and the Education and Development Group (GEDE) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with the support of Participa Gran Canaria.

We would like to especially thank Participa Gran Canaria for making this free training possible and for continuing to promote initiatives that strengthen participation and contribute to building healthier and safer digital spaces.

Our commitment continues

With the completion of these workshops, Opciónate reinforces its commitment to promoting gender equality, preventing digital violence, and strengthening skills for active participation in the digital environment.

We will continue our work on generating social impact through training, awareness-raising, and the creation of shared learning spaces.
