The event brought together dozens of professionals in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to debate on the current situation of minors in relation to new technologies: addictions, pornosocialisation, mental health and offending behaviour.

The conference “Minors and new technologies: addictions, pornosocialisation, mental health and offending behaviour” was organised on 23 and 24 May in Santa Cruz de Tenerife by the Regional Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children and Families, bringing together a large number of speakers from different disciplines and professionals from the educational and legal fields in the region.

Ms. Candelaria Delgado Toledo opened the conference and welcomed the participants, giving way to the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to present their assessments on the use of new technologies and the current offending behaviour of adolescents. The following presentations followed:

  • Violence and dysfunctional sexuality. Perverse allies: cyberbullying, sexting and grooming. What can we do? Mr. Juan Ignacio Capafons Bonet.
  • Development of educational intervention for the promotion of equality and the prevention of gender violence in adolescents, Ms. Elena Vila Cortavitarte.
  • Instruments to measure sexist attitudes. Results of the educational programme. Mr. José Miguel Díaz Gómez.
  • Finally, on the 23rd, Ms. Marta Díaz Gómez presented the web portal previogen.com and the day concluded with the presentation: Violent pornography as an educational reference for our minors: effects and prevention given by Mr. José Luis García.

On Friday 24th May, the second and last day of the conference, the following papers were presented:

  • Gender, alcohol and social networks in young people. EDIFEM Project. Ms. Nuria Romo Avilés.
  • How do screens impact on health and development? Ms. María Angustias Salmerón Ruiz.
  • Social networks and minors: what they don’t tell you. Ms. Laura Davara Fernández de Marcos.

The professionals from Opciónate: Ana Lidia Fernández Layos (director of the organisation and coordinator of SIPACM), Verónica Rodríguez (SIPACM lawyer) and Cristina García (SIPACM psychologist) presented the initiatives carried out by the organisation in terms of prevention, action and reparation in the face of male chauvinist cyber-violence.

Each intervention was followed by a question and answer session so that attendees could participate.

The Conference was closed by the Director General of Child and Family Protection, Ms Juana de la Rosa González.
