ACIISI continues to promote gender equality with the collaboration of Opciónateg.
The entity collaborates again in 2024 as a gender equality advisor with the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI) in the implementation of the ATHENA project.
ATHENA is a research project funded by the European Union under the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation H2020, specifically in the call H2020-SwafS-2020-1, which focuses on the objective “Science with and for Society”. Its main objective is to implement gender equality plans in research organisations to remove barriers in the recruitment, retention and career progression of female researchers.
This 4-year project aims to address gender imbalances in decision-making, as well as to generate the cultural change necessary to avoid future gender bias and discriminatory practices. It focuses on the implementation of Gender Equality Plans (GEP) in six research organisations (RPOs) and two research funding organisations (RFOs) in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in outermost regions of the European Union, including the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society, for which Opciónate will be working, and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Among the actions to be developed by Opciónate in the framework of this consultancy is the complete review from a gender perspective and to ensure non-sexist inclusive language, of more than twenty funding calls, of the fixed content of the ACIISI and Ciencia Canaria websites, and of the publications of both profiles of their social networks. In addition, staff training needs in gender equality will be assessed and training will be designed and delivered for all ACIISI staff in the last quarter of the year. Finally, Opciónate will be in charge of carrying out a participatory consultation to assess the institutional implementation of the ACIISI Equality Plan.
