The initiative will involve several leading women in personal, social, economic and political transformation.

Opciónate is launching a project in Gran Canaria to promote feminist leadership with the active support of at least five inspiring women who are leaders in personal, social, civic, economic or political transformation. The initiative aims to promote new forms of horizontal participation with a gender, intercultural and intersectional perspective, as well as to lay the foundations for the establishment of new sorority networks.

The project is supported by the Department of Social Policy, Accessibility, Equality and Diversity of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, directed by Isabel Mena, through the grants for the development of the ‘Strategic Framework for Equality Gran Canaria Infinita’ for the year 2023, aimed at non-profit organisations.

Its specific objectives include the identification of internal and external gender beliefs and barriers, the development of skills to overcome them, the increase of self-knowledge, personal and professional empowerment and the prevention of gender-based violence. It also aims to promote a leadership style that is coherent with the realities and needs of women and to highlight the relationship between gender socialisation and women’s difficulties in leading in different areas of life, among others.

The main pillar of the project will be the face to face and online empowering learning process for women 18 years and above. Those interested can already register through the form at the link https://forms.gle/WoC954QSxkBEQXDK8. The sessions will include the experiences and reflections of women leaders in different fields, from sport to the business world, including health and education.

The work will be focused on offering experiential training with a holistic and therapeutic approach from individual to collective leadership, adapted to each of the participants so that they can embark on the path towards greater personal, social, economic, labour and political empowerment that will enable them to increase their capacities, practical and emotional skills to lead their lives in all spheres and contribute to creating, in the words of María Zambrano, “the society of people”.

Participants will receive support through emotional and social intelligence and Gestalt to foster motivation and guidance so that they can develop their own action plan, improving their personal, social and professional leadership. As part of their work, throughout the training they will produce creative materials about their leadership with key messages for other women.

These materials will be available on the Opciónate website and the images and messages selected will be printed in different formats (T-shirts, notebooks, bags or posters) which will be given to the students, women leaders and the team and will be exhibited at the end of the project.
