Opciónate, an organisation committed to social and technological development, has participated as a mentor in the ninth edition of HackForGood Canarias, a flagship event organised by the Telefónica Chair of Accessible Technologies of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and the Vice-Rectorate for Students, Alumni and Employability.
The event was held on March 14th, 15th and 16th 2024 at the ULPGC headquarters. Under the slogan ‘Let’s imagine a more sustainable world’, the event brought together creative and enthusiastic minds with the aim of developing innovative technological solutions that address social challenges and contribute to improving people’s quality of life.
During these three days of intense collaboration and teamwork, the participants, known as ‘Hackers ForGood’, received guidance and support from mentoring entities. The participation in this case of the director of Opciónate, Ana Lidia Fernández-Layos; the organisation’s legal expert, Verónica Rodríguez; and the Equality technician, Teresa Gubern.
The “ForGood” hackers are young people with innovative ideas and motivation to solve problems with innovative solutions. In the event they had the opportunity to tackle various social challenges, working side by side with mentoring organisations and Telefónica volunteers to find creative and effective solutions.
The HackForGood Canarias 2024 event included awards for the best three teams, as well as special recognition for the best mentor, the best hacker and three other hackers with an outstanding performance in the Hackathon.
