A training session on specific measures and proposals for musical event producers took place at the CIC El Almacén on June 10..
What can a cultural event do about sexual violence?
This question was the focus of the panel discussion in which Ana Lidia Fernández Layos participated, along with other fantastic professionals working in the fields of law, gender equality, and journalism:
✳️ Ruth Miranda, lawyer specializing in gender-based violence
✳️ Carmen Delia Reyes, legal expert at the Mararía Association
✳️ Pilar Esteban, journalist
We reflected together on:
✅ Protocols to prevent and respond to sexual assault and gender-based violence
✅ Possible courses of action to prevent assaults at cultural events
✅ Action tools for the staff working at the organization and for the public attending the event
What was proposed to the producers and organizers of cultural events?
✅ We must make our commitment to combating violence visible and train the entire team: from the people who work pouring drinks to the security staff.
✅ We must learn to identify sexual assault and know what steps to take when it occurs.
✅ The purple dots must be in visible locations that guarantee privacy and hearing. They cannot be placed anywhere.
✅ We should require a certificate guaranteeing the absence of sexual offenses from all people participating in the event (artists and staff).
✅ The great challenge is managing the presumption of innocence of the aggressor and supporting the victim.
During the discussion among attendees, crucial issues were highlighted, such as the vulnerability of dependent individuals, residents of nursing homes and day centers, who cannot even report having suffered an assault, and the importance of mechanisms such as the State Pact against Gender-Based Violence and the Istanbul Convention to encourage public and private institutions to implement appropriate measures to prevent and adequately address all forms of violence against women and girls.
The final conclusion was that the key to everything lies, as always, in education: we need affective-sexual education in schools and institutes, and we need to create a culture of collective responsibility.
Arrecife en vivo stated that it will not tolerate any type of violence and will continue working to create a nurturing and safe environment for coexistence.
