Description:

The project ‘To be, being and participating in the digital era’ is an initiative funded by the Citizen Participation Unit of the Department of the Presidency of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through the call for grants for the promotion of citizen participation and associative strengthening aimed at foundations, associations, federations, confederations, and non-profit organisations.

`To be, being and participating in the digital era’ has as its fundamental axis the promotion of ethical and participatory cybercitizenship of young people in the first year of secondary school on the island of Gran Canaria. To this end, it will carry out training and advisory activities with both students and teachers in four groups (from four schools) on the island, providing teachers with the teaching of the subject “Ethical and civic values” about ethics and citizenship in digital environments.

After this, Opciónate will elaborate, in coordination with the teachers and students who have been part of the process, a final publication with theoretical foundations and practical exercises that will gather information about the learning and experiences, including the proposals that have emerged from them to improve their immediate and global environment.

This publication aims to be an important guide for the approach to the subject of ‘Ethical and civic values’ at an island and regional level, taking into account the digital reality that is currently key in the lives of young people and which is increasing at the beginning of secondary school.

Opciónate will also disseminate via web and social media all the actions and contents developed from the project ‘Being, being and participating in the digital era’ in order to promote greater knowledge about responsible cybercitizenship, as well as the acquisition of tools to put it into practice through the TRICs.

The digital space offers endless opportunities for the participation of young people and the project ‘Being, being and participating in the digital age’ is an opportunity for students in the first year of secondary school to approach the digital age from the perspective of care, rights, responsibility, and social participation.
