The project “Care-based Citizenship and Digital Ethics: new ways of being, existing, and participating in the online world” aims to promote ethical, participatory, and responsible cyber citizenship with a focus on care among primary and secondary school students in Gran Canaria.
In a context where technology and social media are an essential part of everyday life, it is essential that young people learn to navigate digital environments with critical thinking, respect, and awareness of their rights and responsibilities.
This initiative continues the work carried out by Opciónate in recent years on digital education, youth participation, and the prevention of cyberviolence. Through a practical and participatory approach, the project promotes the formation of an active digital citizenship committed to coexistence, equality, and collective well-being.
Main components of the project:
- Counceling for primary and secondary schools on the implementation of the didactic proposal “Being, existing, and participating in the digital age.”
- Participatory sessions with students, teachers, and families on digital ethics, responsible use of technology, and online participation.
- Dissemination of educational materials and content on cyber citizenship and digital care.
- Promotion of the concept of “Care-based citizenship,” which integrates self-care, respect for others, and protection of the digital environment as the basis for coexistence on the internet.
The project is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, in particular SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). It also responds to the priorities of the Canary Islands 2030 Agenda, which focuses on equality, education, and digital transformation.
With this initiative, Opciónate reaffirms its commitment to promoting ethical and participatory digital education and to strengthening an active youth that is aware of its role in building more just, safe, and inclusive communities—both in the physical and digital worlds.
