Description:
On March 12, 2026, Opciónate participated in the workshop “Invisible Sexism: Key Strategies for Preventing Gender-Based Violence Among Youth”, organized by Ecca Social Canarias at the Zona Joven in Candelaria, Tenerife. This event served as a space for reflection on emerging forms of gender-based violence affecting young people, particularly those occurring in digital environments, which often remain unnoticed or normalized.

In a context where social media, digital communication, and online environments are central to young people’s lives, this initiative responds to the urgent need to identify, understand, and prevent gender-based violence in all its forms. From an educational and transformative perspective, the conference promoted tools and strategies to address these challenges through critical awareness, shared responsibility, and a care-centered approach.

During the session, Opciónate’s director, Ana Lidia Fernández Layos, shared insights on gender equality, digital ethics, and the prevention of online gender-based violence. She also presented part of the organization’s experience and materials, highlighting the importance of education as a key tool for social transformation and the role of digital citizenship in building safer and more inclusive environments.

The event brought together experts in gender equality and gender-based violence prevention, including Nerea Barjola, Laura Aguilera Ávila, and Meritxell Salazar, along with the Ecca Social team, fostering a space for dialogue, shared learning, and network-building.

Through this participation, Opciónate reinforces its commitment to supporting young people and promoting digital environments free from gender-based violence. Initiatives like this help make invisible forms of violence visible, strengthen prevention capacities, and foster a digital culture based on equality, respect, and care.
